Certifications - Generalist and Advanced

Specialty certification validates mastery of prerequisite forensic nursing knowledge, skills and experience at the generalist and advanced forensic nursing levels of practice as outlined in the FNCB Core Competencies. The FNCB Core Competencies complement and build upon The Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing (American Association of Colleges of Nursing [AACN], 2021; The Future of Nursing 2020-2030 (National Academy of Medicine, 2021) recommendations. The expectation is that all nurses meet the AACN Essentials Level I or Level II, and the Generalist or Advanced Forensic Nurse specialists and sub-specialists demonstrate mastery of the domains of the FNCB Core Competencies and the content derived from evidence informed practices.

Certification examinations reflect the evolutionary growth and understanding of the Forensic Nurse science and specialty practices. For persons wanting to take the Generalist Forensic Nursing and Advanced Forensic Nursing certification examination, AACN Essentials define unique domains and performance for Level I and Level II educational preparation for nurses, whether BSN or graduate education. FNCB researched and aligned unique core competencies and performance, providing the science and practice content necesssary for the forensic nurse seeking certification, regardless of the educational preparation. Upon successful completion of the application and the certification examination, conferral of the GFN-C™ or AFN-C™ credential signifies the forensic nurse’s competence, having the knowledge to safely practice with populations of vulnerable patients.

Certifications - Micro-Certifications
